Gaston Erhardt, a teaching pro at Vero Beach’s Quail Valley club, earned a main draw doubles entry into the $15,000 Mardy Fish Children’s Foundation Tennis Championships USTA Pro Circuit ITF World Tennis Tournament by winning the tournament’s “wild card” doubles tournament alongside good friend Alejandro Orihuela.
Erhardt and his former Ave Marie University college teammate won three matches at the event played at The Moorings Yacht and Country Club to earn the wild card, including their final-round win over Port St. Lucie’s Lucas Nunez and London Vasilescu 5-7, 6-3, (10-7). They will next compete in the main draw version of the tournament held May 4-10 at the Sea Oaks Beach & Fitness Club where they will play for ATP ranking points and prize money alongside ATP-ranked professional players. The first round doubles matches are scheduled for Tuesday, May 5.
